Theories on Posters, Responses, and Lurkers

Well, I thought about this today, especially after seeing two threads go well over the 2000 view marks with a minimal set of replies.

Some of this might sound repetitive if not simplistic, so if you take it that way it is not meant to insult you or your beliefs.

1.) PREFERENCES - Different strokes for different folks - some people like sleezy pictures, some people like the girl next door, some people like younger girls, some like older girls, some like cleavage, some like booty, some like feet, etc..etc...etc.

One of the reasons why some threads may never see the replies that other threads get is because people have different points of view. As obvious as it sounds, it is true. I, for instance, don't like girls who are webmodels (aside from Bear and EmmaJayne), especially the ones that take slutty-esque pictures to profit off of old pervs (you know what I'm talking about). I also don't like sleezy slutty shots, but there are a select few that I do like. I'm different from each person on this board in that sense. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean that someone else can't. It just means that I have a different preference.

As a result of having a different preference I often find myself either saying something smart to the thread starter, saying something cheap about the individual in the picture, or even not saying anything at all. Each time I decline to comment I do contemplate my choice then move on. I feel that I should reply in an effort to have the poster post more images, but I don't reply because of the fact that I could care less about seeing those types of pictures again. You can see where the confusion comes in on that one, it's a catch-22, I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't (or something like that).

2.) POSTERS - Does anyone here notice that we have some of the best posters around? I do.

* Doublelongdaddy continues to deliver set after set of Jen, and she's nice enough to let him take the pictures. People don't always reply, but he can tell that people are interested because of the view amount.

* Rezdogwolf has a killer thread going, and very few have replied to it in comparison to the amount of pictures, but yet he has over 1700 views with over 300 some odd pictures in it. I don't always reply because of my preferences (see above), but I check it out, killer stuff.

* Stefano is one of the best posters around and he gets tons of credit from the regulars. Have you ever checked out his threads? If not check them out.

* BayAreaBoy is starting to post more, and he's got quality stuff.

* Slayer Of Kings has been posting some hotties lately too.

* deltaone has been doing an awesome job too. Have you checked out his thread?

Those are just a few of the posters, there are some others like Boobsrus that are new, Nightcrawler766 is back and posting again, and so are quite a few other people. One of my personal favorites Realworlds has been absent as of late, which is a shame, but he might be busy.

You should definitely take time and check out some of the posters. If you like their threads and if they share your preferences give them some props, they work hard to bring you the pictures that they post, it is a time consuming process, especially since pictures don't just popup with links and server space already assigned to them.

3.) LURKERS - Those of you who have been around will note that I have a love/hate relationship with lurkers. At the old board I used to include alt tags on my pictures so that when people moused over them they would read something like "F-you you f-ing lurking piece of shit..." Etc..etc.

We have a ton of lurkers here at the board, and either they don't visit often, or don't feel that we have anything that meets their preferences. My advice to lurkers would be this: take a minute and post a reply if you see something that you really like. Because of your reply the thread's starter might go ahead and post more pictures that you like. If you don't reply you may never see anything of the same quality that peaked your interest. I had someone make his first post in my huge thread the other day and I was impressed at the fact that I had brought a lurker out of hiding and that he had chosen my post to do so.

It doesn't take much to do a post folks, and it doesn't take much to find pictures. I think that I'll be doing a 'picture-finding guide' later on so that some of you other folks can start finding pictures to post, no matter what your preferences are. Quick advice for those who can't wait: don't use teen non-nude websites for pictures, and don't use model sites or porn sites to grab the non-nude portions of series. Try to find other sources. It might be hard but you'll eventually find a place where you can grab hundreds of pictures and begin to post them.

That's all for this round. I'm sure that some of you have your own opinions and beliefs that you would like to share, and some of you may disagree with me. Nevertheless you should still think about how you go about things here. Try and support the people who support this board, its the least you could do for a place that offers so much for free.

Wolfie , I love you dearly and have always appriciated the replies you have left in any of my threads.

I have a very old very slow 166mgz computer and Large threads KILL it. If I ever get the pix to display , theres no way I can reply because it crashes my comp. Thats the reason I never reply in yours or DLDs threads , and if in the title , it says "warning" I know better to even click.

Lurkers dont bother me really... The view totals on my threads usually lets me know that people like what I post.

(oddly enough tho I've noticed people dont click as much since I became "Jar Jar" , damn Gungan Haters !)

A very good post Wolfman. Here is what I think. People are either going to post or they are not. I used to post pics a few times a week, but recently(the past few months) I haven't done much posting. In fact I think I have only posted a couple threads of pics at this board. I go through posting binges and then stop for awile. Anyway there is really no reason to be mad at lurkers. Lurkers will always be 10 times the amount of people compaired to those who post.

You know what might fix the viewing problem? Setting the number of posts per page to a lower number. I've been trying to limit the number of pictures a post to 10, but that becomes a problem when you wind up with 100 pics per page, so I can sympathize with you on that one.

If I didn't have a cable connection I would be in hell :)

Over at nntalk I have a thread thats been viewed 3700 times with 19 replies.

It's exactly like you said, if there arent any replies there arent any more posts. I for one am a candid photographer. I am VERY selective in what I bring and twice as selective in what I post. When I post some pics and either get no replies or the usual repliers (Odil, jamie, dld and you) I assume no one else likes them which makes me not post anymore of those specific ones.

Thanks for the props wolf, I didnt know you cared :) I have been pretty low key and to be honest thats one reason. I dont want the mods to post only cause they feel they have to. Besides they are the brass of this board, they hvae to post something.

The default is 25 posts per page.

Glad You Like it Here Chaos. As Great as it is here (and this IS the best NN forum on the web) , you'll be surprized to learn that this forum is actually in the process of rebuilding itself.

Several weeks ago we had a complete Site crash and lost The Entire thing. Thousands upon thousands of Posts and Photos. Odil basically has rebuilt it from the ground up. Thanks for your participation. This truely is the place to be , and its only getting better....

I personally try to answer every post. I feel that there is beauty in almost everything and it is a pleasure for capture that and give the poster credit. Everyone who posts here is worthy of a thank you in some capacity. I really love everything people post here, I think it probably comes from my background in art. I also try to portrait photography that will appear to a wide gauge of viewers. I don't view my photography as sleazy, but some do. My spectrum of material does experiement in edgy sexuality but it also caters to other forms of photography. I guess what I am saying is read between the lines sometimes and have an open mind.

I really think they do. I f you look at the "Who's Online" you'll see people viewing post for quite a long time and then they log out :rolleyes:

Easy now! When I first came here, I did'nt even look for pr0n / nnpics. That's not really my agender. I have an interrest in thoose pics, but not like I wack off to theese threads. I like nn pics, and I find it fun to discuss pictures.
Besides, the forums here is a great place for finding suitable pics to practise on graphicualy.. ( I think I mispelled the last word )..

I would also like to say that it does hurt my feelings when people do not reply and give a small thank you. Jennifer and myself put alot of effort & money into these pics with the only return being the kind words we receive in the posts...for those that do take the time to respond that is the reason we do it. I am not embarrased to say that I really treasure peoples kind thoughts.

Usually when I'm on broadband I look at pictures, when im on my usual dial-up I just can't wait for 1 thread to load 3 pictures, then reload the page and repeat the proccess. I'll try and comment more :) because, DLD I do like you and Jen.

Would you guys really like it if every thread had the same number of replies as views? A thousand different posts of "nice pics, thanks" in every thread sounds like a nightmare to me. On top of that, as each new person arrives, every single thread they view will be topped, making it almost impossible to distinguish new threads from those weeks old.

Like Jaime said, the view totals show you that people are looking and enjoying your work. At 25 posts per page and 1000 members, there would be 40 pages of responses to each update to each thread. That doesn't sound like much fun to me.

My point exactly.... Only much better stated. Dont get me wrong , I do enjoy some replies in my posts , and especially the banter with friends. But as Bruce stated , I could care less for a "good pic , thanks" from 1000 people that I dont know in every thread. If the views are up there on every post I make , it lets me know people are looking...

I changed my User Name to "Jar Jar Binks" for a couple of days , goofing around , and the number of hits my posts got , dropped dramatically. I changed it back to "Jaime" and people started looking again. That tells me that people appriciate my posts . They click on my threads because they Know I post good pix. Thats thanks enough for me.

I will post to alot of them but eventually it gets tiring especially when there is a full page of new posts. That has happened alot lately because this forum has gotten to ne so busy on alot of days. I think everyone is appreciated.

I used to try and post alot of pics everyday but it seems like too many other things with the forum takes my time so I haven't posted.

Yes...was that selfish? I am just joking of course...but when you are getting the 500 views a day I think 1% in replies is nice...Just as a poster I sometimes translate no replies with people unhappy, when really it is prob. just my own paranoia. But again the replies keep me motivated.

For some reason I think it has something to do with reputation. If you rarely post pics no one will look at them but if you post a lot (i.e DoubleLongDaddy, Wolfman) people will view them based on past posts.

My opinion, which aint worth shit anyway, is that it's generally unhealthy to overanalyze posting trends.
Sometimes people just got nothing to say, can't hold that against them. And yes, this is a busy board, it's imposible to post to everything.

I have forums, and I've made people moderators based on their interests, and I've had them "quit" on me because they didn't feel they could keep up with the commitment.
This boggled my mind...........what commitment? It's a board on the net, all I ever asked of them was to have fun, that was the ONLY obligation!~LOL They could disapear for months at a time, and I couldn't give a crap, it's not a job, there's no time card!~LOL
Hell, I barely post in my own forum!~LOL I made it as a place for my misfit friends because noplace else on the net would have them!~LMAO

What's my point here? Who knows. I just hate to see people not having a good time because they've set a different objective in their head.
To me life is split right down the middle. Fun & Obligation, and I don't take anything in the fun catagory too serious at all, cause that's when it stops being fun.
